Meet the Physicians

Doyle Stulting, MD, PhD, is currently a Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Emory University. Widely recognized as a pioneer in the field of Ophthalmology, Dr. Stulting is the Medical Director at Emory Vision. He is on staff at The Emory Eye Center, the largest, most comprehensive eye care facility in Georgia, ranked by Ophthalmology Times as one of the top ten eye centers in the country. His areas of expertise include:  a variety of refractive surgery procedures, the management of corneal and external eye diseases, corneal transplantation, and cataract surgery. Dr. Stulting is an internationally recognized expert on the subject of quality standards and visual outcomes in refractive surgery.

While serving on the Eye Surgery Education Council, Dr. Stulting co-authored guiding documents for physicians and “LASIK Surgery Screening Guidelines for Patients.” Dr. Stulting has been involved in refractive surgery research and clinical trials for more than ten years. He has lectured internationally, performed thousands of LASIK cases, published often-cited papers in the field, and is considered the expert consultant for patients with questions about their refractive surgery outcomes.

Dr. Stulting was an investigator and Medical Monitor for the clinical trials of the Artisan intraocular lens.

Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Stulting served as a member of the Ophthalmic Devices Panel of the U.S Food and Drug Administration for ten years and Chair of the Panel for three years. He is presently Chair of the Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. 

Dr. Stulting’s medical opinion is frequently sought by patients and physicians alike due to his conservative approach to surgery combined with his unwavering commitment to research and improvement in the quality of vision. He has treated numerous world-renowned figures, including a past U.S. President. Dr. Stulting is an avid pilot, food and wine aficionado and dance enthusiast.

J. Bradley Randleman is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Emory University. He is on staff at The Emory Eye Center, the largest, most comprehensive eye care facility in Georgia. Ophthalmology Times, a leading news journal, ranks Emory as one of the top ten eye centers in the country. Dr. Randleman is a widely respected cornea specialist. His areas of expertise include: a variety of refractive surgery procedures, the management of corneal and external eye diseases, corneal transplantation and cataract surgery.

Dr. Randleman received his B.A. degree from Columbia University in New York City. He earned his M.D. degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He then completed his residency training at Emory University, where he received the Outstanding Teaching Resident award while he served as Chief Resident in his final year. As a member of the Emory faculty, Dr. Randleman served as Clinical Instructor and Assistant Residency Director for one year. He then completed a fellowship in Cornea/External disease and refractive surgery at Emory University. Since that time he has performed thousands of LASIK procedures.

Recently, Dr. Randleman’s outstanding care and skills were recognized on a national level. He was awarded the Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for special contributions to the field of ophthalmology, and was awarded the prestigious Claes Dohlman Society Award, which is given once each year to only one individual in the United States for academic and surgical excellence in Cornea and Refractive Surgery training. Since practicing and teaching at Emory, he has trained more than 50 physicians in cataract surgery, refractive surgery and corneal transplantation.

Recognized as an authority on the diagnosis and management of corneal surgery and diseases, Dr. Randleman has given more that 50 hours of national lectures and presentations and has won awards for best research presentations at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is Associate Editor for the Journal of Refractive Surgery and has authored more than 40 publications in leading ophthalmology journals, including “Intraocular lens power calculations after laser in situ keratomileusis” and four book chapters on LASIK evaluation and management of complications. Dr. Randleman was recently awarded the ASCRS Foundation Research Grant for his work on LASIK procedures. He regularly reviews articles for national ophthalmic journals, including: American Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Cornea and Ophthalmology.

John Kim, MD, is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Emory University. He is on staff at The Emory Eye Center, the largest, most comprehensive eye care facility in Georgia. US News and World Report, a leading news journal, ranks Emory as one of the top twenty eye centers in the country. Dr. Kim's areas of expertise include: refractive surgery, the management of corneal and external eye diseases, and cataract surgery.

John Kim, MD, a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He served as chief resident while completing his ophthalmology residency training at the Eye and Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh. Following four years in private practice, he completed a fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the Cincinnati Eye Institute with Dr. Edward Holland.
Dr. Kim is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society.

Dr. Kim began performing laser refractive surgery in 2000. He has written a chapter in a widely-respected book on the most common infection following LASIK. He currently serves on the Refractive Surgery Management and Intervention self–assessment committee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. 

Ann M. Van Wie, OD FAAO, is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Emory University. Dr Van Wie is on staff at the Emory Eye Center.
Dr Van Wie received her doctorate from the Illinois School of Optometry. She completed her residency here in Atlanta, and then served as staff optometrist and chief operating officer at the Northwest Eye Clinic in Minneapolis.
She returned to Atlanta to join the Emory Eye Center, the largest, most comprehensive eye care facility in Georgia. Her research interests include contact lens wear in both children and adults.

 Having grown up in North Dakota and lived in Minneapolis, Dr Van Wie is happy to live in the beautiful south with her husband Jeff and their two energetic children, Andrew (5) and Lauren (2). 

Her friendly, gracious demeanor makes her very easy to talk to and a great source of information as well as comfort to her patients. Her dedication was exemplified in her recent receipt of the President's Award for patient satisfaction scores.
