Who we are Your Emory Vision Consultation During the first part of your initial custom consultation, a certified ophthalmic technician will take a variety of measurements which, along with the surgeon’s examination, will generate a comprehensive, three-dimensional picture of your eyes.
Your eyes will be mapped by three advanced Wavefront analysis systems. Your muscle balance, pupil size, and eye dominance will also be measured. Your eyes will be dilated and your tear film, lenses, retinas, and optic nerve will be evaluated. The health of your corneal tissue and pressure inside your eyes will also be checked. The exam will evaluate the thickness of your cornea and the way your pupil changes in size at dusk or nighttime. A cycloplegic refraction exam will record how your eyes focus. Using special drops, your physician will help your eyes relax the muscles that change the shape of the lens, so the true level of your nearsightedness or farsightedness can be evaluated.
Finally, your physician will discuss the condition of your eyes and recommend the type of surgery that will give you the best results. Often LASIK is chosen as the best option, but Emory Vision offers the widest range of solutions of any provider, so your surgeon can choose the procedure that will have the best possible results for your eyes. In some cases, your physician may recommend that you have no surgery at all. Our surgeons’ only consideration is what is best for you and your vision. Since Emory Vision is a non-profit center, there is no incentive for anyone to encourage you to have a surgery that is not in your best interest. |
